Saving money
Maintaining car parks, paying mileage allowance, for lease cars or for business travel can together amount to a significant part of an organisation’s budget. Yet there are many ways to reduce these transport costs.
Thus, for example organisations can adopt mobility cards and promote public transport use to reduce car travel and push the use of telephone calls and videoconferencing to reduce the need to travel altogether.
In addition, if adopted from the start of a development or redevelopment, mobility management tools can actually help organisations make far more productive use of space by reducing the need for car parking. Such a move not only has implications for reducing the maintenance costs of parking spaces, but also potentially allows for the opportunity costs of building something useful on them to be realised. For instance at the Amsterdam Zuidas, which is the most expensive part of land in the Netherlands, a standard parking value of ony one parking permit (= place) per ten employees was laid down, to save on land.
