Promoting an eco and community friendly image
Becoming carbon neutral, being eco-friendly, making a contribution to the local community, being seen as 'people friendly' and corporately responsible; these are often vitally important in protecting and improving the image of many public and private sector organisations.
Given that transport can have significant impacts on the local environment in terms of increased traffic congestion, over flow parking and air and noise pollution, making efforts to limit the effects of your operations on your neighbours can be an important part of ensuring good relations.
Beyond the local level, the fact that transport can contribute up to a third of CO2 emissions means that addressing transport problems will be key in combating climate change. As a result, mobility management plans offer benefits for organisations with environmental and corporate social responsibility agendas, and therefore indirectly to increasing share values. To calculate one's (reduction of) CO2 emissions, see http://www.carbonfootprint.com/.
The environment was in none of the OPTIMUM² sites the primal motivation for mobility management though it was often mentioned as a positive synergy and a helpful argument to convince companies to participate. |
